Shopify integration

Add AtomicX to your Shopify theme so the chat appears on every storefront page.

Boutique products, shopping bag and customer enquiry card.

Before you start

  • An AtomicX account. The free plan works; add AI when you're ready.
  • Any Shopify plan with the Online Store channel.
  • Owner access, or staff permissions for Themes and Edit code.
  • A purchased theme. You can't edit code on a theme you're still trialling.

1. Copy your snippet from AtomicX

  1. Sign in to AtomicX and go to Insights › Widget generator.
  2. Under 1. Select Configuration, choose the chat you want on this site.
  3. Pick 2. Display Mode (Floating corner bubble or Full Page), 3. Button Position and 4. Widget Theme. The Live Preview shows the result.
  4. Under 5. Integration Method, choose Auto-Initialize. It's one snippet that starts the chat when the page loads.
  5. Under 6. Generated Code, click Copy.

2. Add it to Shopify

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes.
  2. Next to your live theme, click ⋯ › Duplicate. This gives you a backup copy.
  3. On the live theme, click ⋯ › Edit code.
  4. In the file list on the left, open Layout › theme.liquid.
  5. Find the closing </body> tag near the end of the file and paste your AtomicX snippet on the line just above it.
  6. Click Save.

Changes to your live theme go live as soon as you save. There is nothing to publish and no cache to clear.

3. Check it works

  1. Open your site in a private or incognito window, so you're not seeing a cached or logged-in version.
  2. Look for the chat button in the corner you picked.
  3. Ask it a question you know the answer to. Then check the conversation appears in Conversations in your AtomicX dashboard.

Good to know

  • The chat won't appear on checkout pages. Shopify doesn't load your theme there.
  • The snippet lives in the theme you edited. If you switch or duplicate themes later, add it to the new one too.
  • Theme updates can replace your edited copy. Check the chat is still there after every update.

Update or remove it

Go back to Online Store › Themes › ⋯ › Edit code › theme.liquid, delete or replace the snippet, and save.

If something isn't right

  • No chat button? Clear your site's cache, check you published or saved, and try a private window with ad blockers off.
  • Two chat buttons? The snippet is installed twice, for example in your site and in Google Tag Manager. Keep one.
  • Still stuck? Contact us and tell us your platform and site address.
