Before you start

  • An AtomicX account. The free plan works; add AI when you're ready.
  • Any BigCommerce plan on a Stencil theme.
  • A control-panel account that can use Script Manager.

1. Copy your snippet from AtomicX

  1. Sign in to AtomicX and go to Insights › Widget generator.
  2. Under 1. Select Configuration, choose the chat you want on this site.
  3. Pick 2. Display Mode (Floating corner bubble or Full Page), 3. Button Position and 4. Widget Theme. The Live Preview shows the result.
  4. Under 5. Integration Method, choose Auto-Initialize. It's one snippet that starts the chat when the page loads.
  5. Under 6. Generated Code, click Copy.

2. Add it to BigCommerce

  1. In your control panel, go to Storefront › Script Manager and click Create a Script.
  2. Name it AtomicX.
  3. Set Placement to Footer.
  4. Set Location to Storefront pages. This covers every page except checkout and order confirmation.
  5. Set Script category to Functional. BigCommerce describes this category as including live chat.
  6. Set Script type to Script, paste your AtomicX snippet into the contents box, and click Save.

The script goes live straight away. No theme publish or cache flush is needed.

3. Check it works

  1. Open your site in a private or incognito window, so you're not seeing a cached or logged-in version.
  2. Look for the chat button in the corner you picked.
  3. Ask it a question you know the answer to. Then check the conversation appears in Conversations in your AtomicX dashboard.

Good to know

  • If your cookie banner is on, shoppers who decline Functional cookies won't see the chat. Don't pick Analytics or Targeting by mistake: fewer people would see it.
  • Avoid All pages unless you need chat on checkout. Checkout has stricter security rules for scripts.

Update or remove it

Go to Storefront › Script Manager, find the AtomicX script, then edit or delete it.

If something isn't right

  • No chat button? Clear your site's cache, check you published or saved, and try a private window with ad blockers off.
  • Two chat buttons? The snippet is installed twice, for example in your site and in Google Tag Manager. Keep one.
  • Still stuck? Contact us and tell us your platform and site address.
