TAG MANAGER

Google Tag Manager integration

Deploy AtomicX through Google Tag Manager. No changes to your site's code.

A deployment tag distributed to website pages.

Before you start

  • An AtomicX account. The free plan works; add AI when you're ready.
  • Google Tag Manager already installed on every page of your site.
  • Edit permission in the container to create the tag, and Publish permission to make it live.

1. Copy your snippet from AtomicX

  1. Sign in to AtomicX and go to Insights › Widget generator.
  2. Under 1. Select Configuration, choose the chat you want on this site.
  3. Pick 2. Display Mode (Floating corner bubble or Full Page), 3. Button Position and 4. Widget Theme. The Live Preview shows the result.
  4. Under 5. Integration Method, choose Auto-Initialize. It's one snippet that starts the chat when the page loads.
  5. Under 6. Generated Code, click Copy.

2. Add it to Google Tag Manager

  1. At tagmanager.google.com, open your web container and go to Tags › New.
  2. Click Tag Configuration › Custom HTML and paste your AtomicX snippet. Leave Support document.write unticked.
  3. Click Triggering and choose All Pages.
  4. Name the tag AtomicX and click Save.
  5. Click Preview, enter your site address, and check in Tag Assistant that the tag fires and the chat appears.
  6. Click Submit, add a version name, and click Publish.

Nothing goes live until you publish the container. Visitors usually see the chat within minutes.

3. Check it works

  1. Open your site in a private or incognito window, so you're not seeing a cached or logged-in version.
  2. Look for the chat button in the corner you picked.
  3. Ask it a question you know the answer to. Then check the conversation appears in Conversations in your AtomicX dashboard.

Good to know

  • Using a cookie banner? Fire the tag on your consent tool's trigger, or set Advanced Settings › Consent Settings to require consent, instead of firing on All Pages.
  • Install AtomicX one way only. If the snippet is also in your site template, visitors get two chat buttons.
  • Visitors whose browser blocks Google Tag Manager won't see the chat. If that matters, paste the snippet straight into your site instead.

Update or remove it

In your container, pause or delete the AtomicX tag, then submit and publish a new version.

If something isn't right

  • No chat button? Clear your site's cache, check you published or saved, and try a private window with ad blockers off.
  • Two chat buttons? The snippet is installed twice, for example in your site and in Google Tag Manager. Keep one.
  • Still stuck? Contact us and tell us your platform and site address.
